Yes. Foreign productions filming in Thailand generally need a film permit from the Thailand Film Office, Department of Tourism, before filming begins. Features, series, commercials, reality, documentaries, music videos and branded shoots all fall under the system. Still photography and productions using only post-production services in Thailand do not require a Thailand film permit.
The permit itself is usually the easy part. What affects your schedule are the script, locations and how late you send us the paperwork. A three-day commercial in a Bangkok hotel is very different from a shoot involving a national park, a temple, drones and 25 foreign crew. Send us your treatment or script, crew list, dates and location wish list. We can usually tell very quickly what needs approval and what could slow you down.
One more thing: Thailand appoints a monitoring officer to the production. Their job is to check that what is being filmed matches the material that was approved, so if the script or planned scenes change, tell us before you shoot them.
